Elena Costelian
Begun in 2020 in California, Elena Costelian's "American Series" is a performative project that leads from Los Angeles to Athens, from Greek mythology to film history and current social demands.
The artist photographed the landscapes of California's wide open spaces, characteristic of Hollywood and the American dream of the 60's. She printed them in silkscreen, and hand-painted quotes from films and slogans taken from walls in Berlin, Paris and Athens. Elena Costelian then wanders through the cities with her phrase-images, making the link between American landscape, graffiti and collective unconsciousness. The continuation of the project, realized in 2021 in Greece, will cross the phrases of the Parisian street and the places of the Greek mythology.
For the exhibition "Dreaming of Better days", Elena Costelian proposes a unique work composed of four hand-painted serigraphic prints, "to handle with Care".
