THE WORDS FROM ANNESOPHIE BÉRARD, OUR CURATOR :
OF THE IMPOSSIBLE REPRESENTATION
Is it possible to represent human nature? Like an archaeologist, the French artist Mathilde Denize strives to reconstitute the fragments of a whole to which we will never have access. Faced with her (in)ability to represent the complexity of any human figure, the artist explores the notion of fragmentation. By collecting incomplete objects and materials that she then assembles into a mysterious composition, she makes visible the narration of previously silent stories. Each color, each form is its own landscape, summoning a memory and an imagination that is both singular and multiple.
