Marie-Luce Nadal
THE WORDS FROM ANNESOPHIE BÉRARD, OUR CURATOR :
FACING WHAT IS BEYOND US
Can we control the sky? Can we provide viable solutions to unpredictable climate change? Artist Marie Luce Nadal remembers her winegrowing grandfather practising cloud seeding, a technique to influence rainfall and hail. Nations such as China and Russia are also investing in this technique in an attempt to counteract drought crises. From these experiments, the artist retains the importance of cultivating his beliefs, protecting his hopes and knowing how to experiment.
Developing a dreamlike relationship with the environment, she invents herself as the heroine of a new narrative. Adorned with the mask of the deity of the mist, which she has made herself from organic and synthetic materials, she venerates as much as she defies nature. In the same harvesting process, the artist has been photographing clouds with her phone for several years. Printed without retouching on aluminium plates, they become an abstract motif questioning the viewer's ability to see and transcend reality.
