May Murad
THE WORDS FROM ANNESOPHIE BÉRARD, OUR CURATOR :
VIRTUAL IDENTITY, REAL EXISTENCE
Made during the confinement, May Murad's Virtual Reality series shows her stuck at home, with a screenshot as her only window of escape: the digital becomes the extension of her existence and the only possible way of communication. By painting her virtual escapes, the artist questions the essence of our identity, when our ability to act is taken away. This reflection goes beyond the context of confinement and refers more broadly to the cultural and political confinement of Gaza, which led the artist, a few years earlier, to flee her country.
Born in 1984 in Palestine, May Murad is a graduate of the Fine Arts School of Gaza. Residing in France since 2019, she is a member of the workshop of artists in exile and is studying for a master's degree in geopolitics of art and culture at the Sorbonne.
