Duaa Qishta
THE WORDS FROM ANNESOPHIE BÉRARD, OUR CURATOR :
Dreaming, riding, overcoming.
Born in 1991, Palestinian artist Duaa Qishta has been a member of the Artists in Exile Workshop since 2020. As soon as she arrived in France, she set out to fulfill a buried dream: to ride a bicycle. This is indeed a practice forbidden to women in her country.
A recurring motif in her work, this blue bicycle becomes the artist's companion in revolt, denouncing the cultural heritage that conditions the lives of women in certain Arab-Muslim countries. A symbol of emancipation and liberation, the painting presented shows the artist riding her bike like a horse and thus makes an ode to the rights to enjoy oneself and to defy oppressive customs.
The Caring Gallery is committed to donating 10% of the sale of this work to the partner association of the exhibition.
