Martin Parr
THE WORDS FROM ANNESOPHIE BÉRARD, OUR CURATOR :
With tenderness and humour, the English photographer Martin Parr looks at the absurdity of the selfie. This seemingly harmless action, which consists of sharing a self-portrait on social networks in a chosen location, is in fact a reflection of several phenomena of societal proportions: permanent control of our image, the need to dramatise our own lives, redefinition of the values of our virtual and real lives... To the point of death? Since 2008, nearly 380 people have died in these conditions and the number is rising. At a rate of one death per week in the world in 2021, we are now talking about a public health problem, five times more dangerous than sharks.
